What the f#*$ happened to those Koala Friday chaps?
So you think we've been putting our feet up and playing in the snow for the last few weeks? OK, so you're partly right but we've also been working hard on brand new material for 2010.
Writing new songs is a lengthy process which for Koala Friday involves four musicians coming up with 20 chord progressions, 402 different poly-rhythms for each song before deciding that simpler is always better! This time consuming but enjoyable process has been an experiment of our musicality and song writing ability and we've made the conscious decision to ensure that it's all been documented right from the start. From grainy-distorted footage from our bedrooms to 1990 midi-disk recorded rehearsal footage in our resident rehearsal studio Soundlocker Studios: we've got it all. We'll be compiling it later next month to present a very special documentary for our fans.
We'd like to bring a very special gig to your attention: Koala Friday 2010's re entry gig at the Latest Music bar, Brighton on the 24th of February 2010. Come and see us play for the first time in 2010 where we'll be previewing some of our brand new material for you to infuse, digest and creetic.
Tickets are only £3 in advance and £4 on the door (I spent more on a soggy sandwich earlier for lunch). For more information visit live dates. |

New Koala Friday EP signals new direction
Koala Friday has just finished recording and mixing their second EP which is confirmed to be entitled "Choose your colour". The EP signals a new direction and sound for the band, focusing on songs which have hard hitting melodies, recorded by a very talented team at Brighton's elite recording and music facility Soundlocker. The record is produced with a more mature, vintage feel and one can see the inspiration from artists such as Coldplay and the Kings of Leon, which the band proudly takes inspiration from.
Commenting on the final day Otto from Koala Friday said "It's great to capture the music exactly as we heard it in our heads, all of the team involved in this recording have made it so fun to make. In fact we ended the mixing day by setting up our gear in the recording studio and writing a new track which we think is our best to date!"
Choose your colour will be available to purchase from September 09 from public performances and official distributors. |

Recording new material this weekend
Well it's been at least a month since Koala Friday last recorded, so it's time for them to get back in the studio and start recording their exciting new material.
The recording session which is taking place at the bands local home town of Brighton marks a turning point in their sound. One of the new songs "Choose your colour" asks the simple question, 'who do you want to be' and highlights the simple truth that you can be who ever you wish to.
"Musically the band has never sounded better, and I think the new material has a lot more depth than the previous songs. We don't regret any of our past, those songs and recording sessions was just part of the refining journey you go through as a band. We now feel we know ourselves as a band better..." commented Ross on the bands new approach.
Early snippets of the bands new material will be available on this website late next week. |
